xXRx - 333 Ch1

Crazy things happen late at night, some good and some bad. If for some reason you searched for me last Tuesday you would have found me in luc1d's living room, listening to the dark ambient and industrial tones of the his latest project, xXRx. The latest album is meant to be the beginning of a trilogy, and while it's always great to know that there's more to come from an album that is fast becoming a favorite that's not the best part of 333 Ch1. The ambiance found throughout the album is reminiscent of a tastefully done horror score, often I get the urge to watch Silent Hill while this is playing; though I feel that describing this album such is almost doing it a disservice it's one of the only ways I can describe it to potential listeners. One of the standout tracks is "Ma Mere," whose beginning synths conjure memories of numerous Birthday Massacre songs though it is far creepier than anything Chibi and Co. have done. While I should have been sleeping and getting prepared for college the next morning I most definitely don't consider my time wasted this is one album that shouldn't be missed, go check it out!

µ-Ziq - Bilious Paths (1995)

The movement within Rephlex Records and later Planet Mu in the early 90s was historic for the electronic scene . µ-Ziq (pronounced mu-sic) is a somewhat underrated in the electronic scene, as most of his work isn't as known to some of his contemporaries. Bilious Paths at the time was still an experimental and some say at points arbitrary. It's what made it so great, IDM was still in an infancy and experimental forms of musicianship were still widespread. µ-Ziq's record tinkers with ambient, ethereal soundscapes as seen in "Siege of Antioch", what seem like odd dance mash-ups and the dark eeriness that ultimately manifests itself within Bilious Paths.

Ulver - War of the Roses (2011)

Well well well what do we have here? New Ulver I see. Fear not they haven't gone back to the Bergtatt days but this however is such a glorious victory. Check out "Providence" below, probably one of the albums best songs.

Tonikom - The Sniper's Veil

An agent of darkness and variety, Tonikom bestows upon the masses an incredible sophomore release. Run entirely by one of the most attractive women to ever participate in the underground, Tonikom is under the label Hymen Records (which I find incredibly humorous). Her music is a diverse composition which combines drum and bass with IDM, aggrotech, and some dubstep, and is solidified with an immense and glorious sound-scape of dark/avant-garde ambience.

The Third Eye Foundation - The Dark

Enter a world of darkness and chaos. One that is both strange, yet strangely familiar, as if a recurring dream. As the dark ambient creeps in, and the souls of the damned wail upon your entering the abyss, let it be known that this place is your final destination. Drum & bass beats will pummel, and the air will suffocate, but the experience must not be missed.
