Zomby - Dedication

One of the most stunning albums to emerge this year, Dedication is another entry into one of the most eclectic and fascinating discogs in all of dubstep. Quite honestly one of the most haunting albums I've ever had the pleasure of hearing, Zomby's sophomore effort is truly a wrecking ball of emotion and sinister intentions.

Egyptrixx - Bible Eyes

In Bible Eyes, Egyptrixx combines dubstep and house into a catchy, inexplicably cute album, reminiscent of old video games. The result is a surprisingly fun album and an engrossing listen. It's magical, to say the least.

Feed Me - To The Stars

Fresh off of Beatport, here's Feed Me's latest ep. Filled to the brim with candy coated electro house and family friendly dubstep it's a suitable companion to last year's Big Adventure release.

Fractured - Beneath The Ashes [2011]

Okay so bloc doesn't like this but I think it's pretty fucking cool.  Fractured's sound is a neat mix of industrial, metal, EBM and dubstep. Yeah I said dubstep, the womp kind too.  Most of their music is straight up industrial with the occasional riff but then they throw in some pretty great metalcore-esque vocals and the occasional wobble and you have Beneath The Ashes.  Just download it already.

Guido - Anidea

Sexy, sexy dubstep. Guido here brings his sexy, hip-hop infused beat and then talks about cats and windows and boom! The panties are coming off.

Do you happen to be well accompanied right now? Try Guido’s power out:

Ok, now. Before you think up names for your oncoming children, make sure You Do It Right.

Kode9 and the Spaceape - Black Sun

Following on from their genre-bending Memories Of The Future, Kode9 and the Spaceape have finally teamed up for the much-anticipated second round. With one possessing one of the most unique voices in the scene, and the other the only man alive to hold a phd in dubstep, Black Sun is a giant leap forward in terms of its wonky leanings. At times more warmer and vibrant than their earlier smoky releases, underneath its bright sheen lies the same grizzled heart beating away in its cavernous depths. Another milestone release for Hyperdub.

Tomba - Brace For Impact EP (2011)

For some reason I detest when people describe this type of dubstep as "filthy" or "dirty".  Yes it may not be clean and smooth like Burial or Swarms but those words to me just seem moronic.  This short 5 song ep is great.  It's a more cohesive and lengthy listen than Choke On Coke and definitely deserves to be a forerunner in the dubstep genre.

It's not just fun ladies and gentlemen.

It's fuckin' womp.

Emalkay - Eclipse (2011)

Fuck yeah 2011. Emalkay is releasing his debut full length album and you can bet from this years EP - Fabrication/Massive that it's going to be nuts.  Listen to it and

WOMP

Monday, April 25, 2011

Here we have it. The famous "The Imperial March" put to dubstep. You can just bet that once the first wob hit, fanboys and nerds everywhere felt a miniature explosion in their nether region. If George Lucas' awful script writing in Attack of the Clones angers you, perhaps some cool, forceful dubstep will simmer you down.

Hirshee - So Good

Hirshee is filthy. No not the chocolate. This song is undoubtedly some of the best dubstep I've heard this year so far.  While Hirshee normally operates within the realm of drum and bass and house, this song certainly stretches his talents further and it works really really well.

Emalkay - Massive

Here's the other half of Fabrication, much more wobble in this one with a heavy, hard hitting baseline.  Doesn't quite have the magic that Fabrication brought but it's still a worth addition to Emalkay's name.  Here's another 4 songs that further extends his great name.

Vaski - Storm Chaser

So it's time for a little bit of hometown bragging. Vaski, a 20 year old dubstep DJ from Minnesota became a global name in the dubstep game before he could legally even drink.  This latest release from him isn't going to blow your mind by any means but it's one of the sickest dubstep tracks of 2011 so far.

Submerged - Before Fire I Was Against Other People

So Ohm Resistance founder Submerged finally got around to delivering us his long awaited sophomore album, and it's a fucking scorcher. A violent pastiche of subsonic dubstep, beaten down drum & bass and schizophrenic breakcore, Before Fire I Was Against Other People has lived up to our expectations more than we ever thought possible.

Sorrow - Existence

More revivalist garage from the L2S boys, this time a debut from a man called Sorrow. An artist already loved by hundreds due to his humble beginnings on Soundcloud, Existence is the work of an artist set to explode. For an artist still in the beginning stages of his career it's impressive to see how much maturity and energy he's able to muster in just four tracks. Check the highlight of the album, 'Jacob's Ladder' here.

Swarms - Old Raves End

If Mary-Anne Hobbs is to be remembered for any one thing (and this of course, will not be the case) then I'd have to cast my vote towards this. Swarms are a three piece collective, who for a time, made music just for fun. On a whim tracks were sent out to various pirate dj's and after recieving rave reviews and acclaim (mainly spearheaded by Hobbs' insistence on playing the tunes everywhere she went, the band were convinced enough to turn their hobby into a full time venture. Without Mary-Anne, we might not have Old Raves End. Truly one of the greatest albums to emerge from this year so far, Swarms conduct an electic orchestra of ambient and dubstep all held in place with a post rock aesthetic. A must have for anyone who likes their atmosphere massive, and their beats soulful. Check out 'Flikr Of Ur Eyes' here.
